Intelligent Fault Detection and Diagnostics in Solar Plants

A. Coleman, J,. Zalewski

Proc. IDAACS 2011, 6th IEEE Intern. Conference in Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems, Prague, Czech Rep., Sept. 15-17, 2011

Abstract: This paper discusses fault detection and diagnostics in a solar power plant. After reviewing relevant work, description of a data acquisition system for solar plant monitoring is presented and the list of potential faults to be taken care of is given. Then Bayesian belief network is built to intelligently reason about potential causes of faults detected. Finally, a practical implementation of a computer system to retrieve data, extract relevant information, and reason about fault detection in real time is presented.

Building a Business Case for a Bachelor's Degree Program in Software Engineering

T. Tharp, J. Zalewski

Proc. ICEME 2011, 2nd International Conf. on Engineering and Meta-Engineering, Orlando, FL, March 27-30, 2011, pp. 168-173.

Abstract: The paper presents an analysis, how likely the prospective graduates of a new software engineering program would meet the market demand. It addresses the respective issues in two ways: first, by presenting and analyzing statistical data on employment of computer software engineers nationwide, as well as in the State of Florida and in Southwest Florida's three Metropolitan Statistical Areas, and second, by presenting data from interviews with CEO's and CTO's of over twenty local high-tech companies in Southwest Florida, which employ software engineers.
